ABOUT RICHMONDYDN
Answering a Community Need
The Richmond Youth Development Network (RichmondYDN), brings together people working in out-of-school time, youth development, health services, and education for networking, relationship building, and shared learning. RichmondYDN is a program of the VCU Division of Community Engagement, spearheaded by Dr. Vaughn Whitney Garland.
RichmondYDN, along with its certificate programs, is grounded in four guiding principles that shape how competencies and support systems are taught, practiced, and applied across all learning experiences.
QUICK LINKS
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
HEALING-CENTERED AND TRAUMA-RESPONSIVE
We cultivate environments rooted in healing, belonging, dignity, and care - going beyond simply creating safe spaces.
PEOPLE-FIRST
Relationships, trust, and community voice are at the center of MFYC decisions. Sustainable outcomes are built through authentic human connection.
RESTORATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE
We embrace shared responsibility and collective accountability, co-creating solutions and fostering environments where every voice is valued.
DYNAMIC AND ADAPTIVE
Equitable access is a continuous and reflective practice that grows and evolves alongside the communities we serve.
COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS
Informal opportunities for youth development professionals to gather over the lunch, share ideas, and connect with colleagues. Bring your own lunch and items to discuss - or simply come and enjoy the company.
