YOUTH VOICE AND LEADERSHIP
MFYC Youth Advisory Council
The MFYC Youth Advisory Council empowers young people, ages 12 to 17, to shape the future of programming at the Mary and Frances Youth Center. We are currently accepting nominations!
OUR PURPOSE
Your voice shapes what we do
The MFYC Youth Advisory Council empowers youth to bring their voices and experiences to the table. As a council member, you will work alongside the MFYC team to evaluate past programs, explore new opportunities, and provide recommendations for future programming.
We believe young people are not just the future — they are leaders right now. The Youth Advisory Council is how that belief becomes action.
WHAT TO EXPECT AS A COUNCIL MEMBER
Monthly Meetings
Attend one meeting per month to assess programs, share feedback, and suggest improvements to the MFYC team
Leadership Development
Participate in leadership workshops hosted by VCU's da Vinci Center, building real skills you can use beyond the council
Youth Town Halls
Host town hall meetings at your school or community center to gather input from your peers and bring it back to MFYC
Advisory Council Meetings
Attend at least one formal MFYC Advisory Council meeting each year alongside adult stakeholders and MFYC leadership
Partnership with VCU's da Vinvi Center:
Council members get exclusive access to leadership workshops through VCU's da Vinci Center — the same innovative program used by the statewide hybrid certificate cohort. This is a unique opportunity to develop creative leadership and design thinking skills alongside VCU students and professionals.
