Youth on Campus

VCU is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all individuals in the university community, particularly minors who participate in VCU programs. Activities involving minors are integral to VCU’s mission of creating and disseminating knowledge for the betterment of society and outreach through community engagement. Ensuring the safe and appropriate treatment of minors on campus is imperative.

The Safety and Protection of Minors Policy applies to all programs and activities that involve non-enrolled minors and are sponsored by the university or conducted by other organizations on VCU’s campus, including camps, clinics, workshops, conferences and other educational activities. The procedures and processes in the Safety and Protection of Minors Policy ensure that VCU programs and activities with participating minors shall be conducted in a manner that is appropriate and intended to keep everyone healthy and safe.

Compliance and Registration

If you are involved in a program on VCU campus that includes minors, this policy applies to you. It is your responsibility to become familiar with and comply to all Safety and Protection of Minors Policy requirements. The policy was approved on March 3, 2016 and went into effect July 1, 2016.

To start:

Orientation Sessions

To support the university community in the implementation of the policy, an orientation session will be held. The orientation is designed for departmental leadership and program staff who are involved in conducting programs involving minors on campus. This in-person orientation will provide guidance on how to put the policy into practice and an opportunity to ask questions. This orientation does not take the place of the required online training.

Department Orientation Sessions:

If you would like to set up a department-wide orientation session and you have a minimum of 8 people interested in attending, please email
